A-1 Rentals was established in 1958 by Ross and Clora Frederick who purchased a small existing equipment rental company in Covina, CA. They named it A-1 and began the business with success and longevity in mind. In the early 1970s, after growing the business and making a name for itself in the local community, A-1 Rentals stayed in the family when Bill and Clojean Fortney took the reins and continued to grow A-1 to the successful business it has become.
In 1979, Bill and Clojean moved the company one block down the street on Arrow Highway to a larger property. In addition to the equipment and truck rentals, Bill and Clojean took the opportunity to expand the business and began purchasing party equipment, starting out with basic wedding and catering necessities to rent out for backyard events.
After finishing college in 1985, Chet Fortney took over the family business. In 2000, seeing the potential for growth in party and event rentals, Chet sold the truck and equipment rentals and partnered with René Martinez, who had many years experience in the Special Event Industry, a Partnership that helped guide A-1 to where it is today. They moved A-1 Party Rentals to an even larger location where it currently resides on Front Street in Covina.
Over the years A-1 Party Rentals, while still continuing to evolve, has been recognized more than once by the leading industry trade publication, Special Events Magazine, as one of the “30 Top Event Rental Companies” based on their gross revenue and contributions. As a company, A-1 is constantly reaching new goals, expanding and playing an important role in setting up many large-scale, commercial events while still being available to homeowners on a daily basis.
